About the show

For the 75th anniversary of Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany’s youngest city, we at FlyingStars were given the opportunity to transform the sky above the city into a glowing stage on two evenings.

Using 250 drones, we told a visual story about the origins, industry, sports, and community spirit of Eisenhüttenstadt—a tribute to the people and their city that thrilled thousands of visitors on both evenings. The show was accompanied by music and a narrator’s voice that guided the audience through the individual chapters of Eisenhüttenstadt’s history and the respective motifs in an exciting way.

Project description

The request

For the city’s 75th anniversary, the city of Eisenhüttenstadt commissioned us to create a drone show that would carry the history and character of the city into the sky, providing an exciting highlight for visitors at the end of two of the city’s festival days.

For the 75th anniversary, the city of Eisenhüttenstadt commissioned us to create a drone show that would visualize the history and character of the city in the sky and serve as an atmospheric finale to two festive evenings. The goal was to tell the story of Eisenhüttenstadt’s identity—from its founding to its industrial development to its vibrant present—in impressive light images.

The preparation

We developed a show concept together with the city. When selecting the motifs, it was important to us to show the complexity of the city: its industrial roots (axe, coil, EKO logo), its cultural and sporting facets (dance weeks, sports motifs, slab), and the community that makes Eisenhüttenstadt what it is (fire department, Snowy, city coat of arms).

In excellent and constructive coordination with our contact person at the city, we coordinated flight planning, safety zones, and permits—careful preparation that ensured everything ran smoothly on both evenings.

The realization

On the evenings of August 30 and 31, we joined thousands of visitors in watching the night sky above Eisenhüttenstadt transform into a living picture book.

The show took us through the history of the city—from its symbolic origins to its industrial rise to art, sports, and culture.

The audience’s reactions were overwhelming: applause, amazement, and many emotional moments until the final message stretched across the sky—on the first evening: “See you tomorrow” and on the second evening: “Bye! :)”.

The conclusion

For us, the anniversary show in Eisenhüttenstadt was a special project: a combination of tradition, community, and modern technology. We are proud to have been part of this historic anniversary and to have told a piece of the city’s history in light with our drone show.
