600 Drones
About the show
We had the privilege of staging an extraordinary drone show for the upcoming spectacular musical “Bokkenrijders” in Maastricht next year. As a visual and emotional teaser element, the show served as a spectacular invitation to next year’s musical performances.
Using 600 drones, key elements from the story and clues about the production were impressively displayed in the night sky – from mystical symbols to a gigantic, interactive QR code. The whole thing was professionally recorded and edited into an impressive teaser. The show attracted a lot of media attention and generated palpable anticipation for the musical. Interested parties could and can still use the QR code to go directly to the musical’s website, learn more, and secure tickets – a perfect combination of art, technology, and marketing.

Project description
The request
For the premiere of the new spectacular musical “Bokkenrijders”, which will be performed in Maastricht in 2026, the production company Toneelgroep Maastricht, led by renowned actor and director Servé Hermans, approached us.
The aim is to integrate the drone show as an art form into the familiar world of musical theater, taking the whole experience to a completely new level. For next year’s spectacular musicals, the show in September was to be part of a media-effective teaser that draws attention to this special production while arousing curiosity about the entire work.
The idea: a show that only announces the musical this year and becomes part of the narrative itself next year – a multimedia stage experience that combines acting, singing, music, and drone shows into an emotional and completely new production.
The preparation
The central motifs and characters were defined in collaboration with the musical’s creative team. The focus was on themes such as mysticism and suspense – in keeping with the legend of the Bokkenrijders. The design of the drone images was intended to reflect the mystical and dramatic atmosphere of the play, and after several rounds of feedback, we arrived at an impressive, crisp storyline that leaves the audience wanting more.
The precise coordination of 600 drones required extensive flight planning, timing, and technical testing. Particularly complex was the integration of the giant QR code in the finale, which was programmed with high precision and tested multiple times to ensure reliable scannability.
The realization
On the evening of September 4, 2025, the sky was transformed into a glowing stage. The show began with the striking lettering “BOKKENRIJDERS” and then led through symbolic scenes from the musical – from the approaching doom to the appearance of the devil to the three mysterious horsemen.
During the show, the venue “LOCATIE GEUSSELT” was also shown, as well as a welcome to the main actors “WELKOM MILAN EN BUDDY” – an emotional moment for the ensemble and fans. The finale featured an impressive QR code that led directly to the musical’s website and interactively engaged the audience.
The conclusion
The teaser “Bokkenrijders” show was an impressive example of how modern drone technology can be integrated into cultural productions. The combination of music, light, and narrative symbols created a unique blend of art performance and promotion.
Both the audience on site and the online community were enthusiastic. The project proved that drone shows can not only impress, but also tell stories and evoke emotions – a perfect start to the upcoming musical, which paves the way for a future full of new possibilities.
